Product FAQs
What is an antenna? What is its function?
An antenna is a metallic structure that captures and/or transmits radio electromagnetic waves. Antennas come in all shapes and sizes from little ones that can be found on rooftops, to large ones that capture signals from satellites millions of miles away.
What are the different types of antennas?
The three main types of antenna are directional, semi-directional, and omni-directional.
Directional antenna (aka. beam antenna) radiates or receives greater radio wave power in specific directions.
Semi-directional antenna is designed to direct the RF
signal in a specific direction for point-to-point communication. They are used for short to medium distance communication both indoors and outdoors.
Omni-directional antenna radiates or receives equal radio wave power in all directions (360°) in the horizontal plane around the antenna, and peak gain is usually on the horizon.
What are the main differentiating factors of antennas?
Four main factors which differentiate antennas are frequency response, impedance, directivity, and electromagnetic polarization. When selecting an antenna for a particular business use case, these factors should be considered.
